Minutemen guitarist and singer, D. Boon, was born on this day April 1, 1958 in San Pedro, California.

Minutemen were an American punk rock band from San Pedro, California. Formed in 1980, the band comprised of D. Boon, Mike Watt, and George Hurley who brought a unique and refreshing blend of punk, jazz, and funk. Their music was characterized by its brevity, with most songs barely reaching two minutes in length, reflective of their name – Minutemen.

The band’s ethos was deeply rooted in the DIY punk aesthetic and they were known for their political and socially conscious lyrics. The Minutemen’s influence on punk rock cannot be overstated. They were integral to the development of the alternative rock genre, infusing it with a more sophisticated and layered sound. The band’s discography includes four studio albums and eight EPs which they churned out at a relentless pace during their active years. However, their career was tragically cut short in 1985 when frontman D. Boon was killed in a car accident.
