1960s actor Monica Vitti, “Queen of Italian Cinema,” died at the age of 90 today. Vitti was best known for her work in the Michelangelo Antonioni films L’Avventura (The Adventure, 1960), La Notte (Night, 1961), and L’Eclisse (The Eclipse, 1962), and later The Mystery of Oberwald (1980).
Today Walter Veltroni, a friend of the family, announced on Twitter “Roberto Russo, her life companion for many years, asked me to announce that Monica Vitti is no longer here. I do this with pain, affection and regret.”
